Compaq iPAQ H3970
2 of 2 found this helpful Prior to 2003, I had no experience with Pocket PC devices. On accepting a new job in healthcare IT, the H3970 was one piece of equipment deployed to me, and I saw this as a means to begin to create a Contact List backup of my rapidly aging (but still reliable) Sharp Wizard.
Over the next 4 years, I intermittently manually entered contact/address book data into the iPAQ, and I found it to be intuitive and easy to learn and use. Auto-fill really helped to speed data entry into certain fields although the timing of capture of that auto-fill data takes a little getting used to. I also found that I could easily download and store (and display) family photos from the SD card from my digital camera-- very convenient!
Eventually, corporate re-structuring appeared on the horizon. I successfully obtained a duplicate H3970 on eBay (for under $100 including shipping -- great deal!!!). I backed up my corporate iPAQ on a personal laptop at home (relatively easy and intuitive). I then successfully uploaded all of that data from my laptop to the iPAQ that I had obtained on eBay. Shortly thereafter, I was out of a job and had to return the corporate iPAQ; however, due to the ease of use and the Backup and Restore functions using Microsoft ActiveSync, I experienced no data loss.
One warning--- if by chance, the battery is run completely down to zero, it is my understanding that all data WILL be lost!! I have not experienced this because I always keep my unit charged; however, owner/user beware!
