After reading this book, the Civil War might just be your fav. time period.
I have much praise to give Gettysburg: A Battlefield Atlas by William J. Clipson and Craig L. Symonds. It is an excellently well written book and has very interesting, easily understandable maps. [The cartography really is brilliant.] I traveled to the actuall Gettysburg site only just recently with my family. My grandpa brought along Gettysburg: A Battlefield Atlas to help us scout out and understand the area and battlefields around the Town of Gettysburg. This book proved an immense help. With it's maps of the present and past Gettysburg as well as historical facts and information on Confederate and Union soldiers, Generals and such, Gettysburg: A Battlefield Atlas really engages the user in Gettysburg and also helps them fully understand better the times, events and battles surrounding Gettysburg. I do not have any really specific things that I did not like about this book. I do recommend it to all Civil War or non-civil War lovers. Before reading this book, I actually did not enjoy learning about the Civil War in general. Boy did this book change my view. I highly recommend you buy to bring along if you decide to visit Gettysburg! Happy Adventures!
