A lot for the money
1 of 1 found this helpful Most of the books on these DVD's were written and published in the 1800's and early 1900's. Some are very interesting just to read. When you put them all together, they cover a lot of ground. The best part, though, is that you can search them all at one time by entering the name you want. There is so much material on each disc that a single search takes about 15 minutes. Still, it's worth the wait. I would highly recommend this product.

Hearing From The Slaves Themselves
These slave narratives are exact transcriptions of interviews with surviving slaves in the 1930's. They describe conditions on the plantations and are full of stories about the masters, overseers and other slaves. They are even written with the exact pronunciations of the former slave's words. You can almost hear them talking.
These are a valuable, fascinating and colorful piece of history.

Interesting and well done
This is not only a superb period piece, the characters portray a wide variety of both admirable traits but flaws as well. The episodes each present a different dilemma or situation, often resolved by imaginative or understanding means. Although it does tend to cast a poor light on the established order and "religion," it does promote doing good. All-in-all a great series that the whole family can watch, you remember, the kind they used to make.
