Shure MX393/O Microflex Boundary Omnidirectional Microphone

The Shure MX393/0: Don't leave home without it!
If getting the best recording possible in sometimes impossible venues is your job, this mic may be for you. Well suited for small board meetings, oral interviews, and group meetings not requiring sound reinforcement . Phantom powered, 360 degree pickup, bright, crisp, neutral recordings. This low-profile mic will record what you hear, nothing more, nothing less. As long as the speaker's voice can be heard over room AC, papers rattling, side conversations, etc. -- the 393/0 will not disappoint.

    Cute Tiger with a Purr
Okay, so it isn't a tiger, it's a cub. Its elegant 200cc single generally starts on the first kick, the seat is easy to throw your leg over, the hand and foot controls are intuitive, and it's a hoot to ride. Flat predictable torque curve gets you up to boulevard speeds in no time. The single sounds robust but not rude as it winds up and down the rpm range. Even if this weren't a sweet ride, it's eye candy of the first order -- straightforward, simple in design and sized just right for the young and the young at heart. I've owned many Harleys and several British bikes since I was 15. This is my all time favorite.

    Maranta PMD660 digital recorder
This is a timeless classic after just a few years on the market. I waited 40 years for this recorder to come out, having suffered through "portable" $3K reel-to-reel recorders and then insufferably unreliable cassette recorders since the early Seventies. The 660 takes some getting used to and time to build your confidence in its use. Before Marantz was purchased by a private equity company, you could call Marantz directly and talk to tech support. I have four 660's now and wouldn't trade them for anything. Bulletproof reliable, super long record times (70 plus hours on a 4GB CF card), lightweight, and cheap (new, less than $500. eBay, about half). Once you program this recorder and make a few notes to remind yourself of the order in which you press buttons (I'm over 60), this is a breeze. I use Martel's all-in-one transcribing program with the 660 and it's a marriage made in heaven. Try 2 Shure boundary mikes with phantom power for awesome conference recording. Set it for line in to record from mixers. This is a true plug and play, or should I say "record and play" recorder. No drawbacks, no complaints, no disappointments. Try it, you'll like it.
