Left to Tell- Questions?
0 of 1 found this helpful I am glad Immaculee raises awareness of the horrors of Rwanda, but I believe the book lacks integrity. I am happy she survived, and am sorry for her plaght and that she lost her family. However, knowing many Rwandans and those who go to the country to help with the orphanages, I know that bathroom like the one presented in the book are practically nonexistent, especially in her village. She also learned english in high school like every other Rwandan her age did, not by the "gift of tongues" as the chapter name implies. Rwandans are also particularly sensitive to the political nature of the book. It talks about forgiveness, but implies that one side committed more atrocities than the other. I am glad she is alive, but I think there are problems with her book. Of course, her picture with the current president could be a problem. There is also no evidence, at least yet, that a school is being built in Kibeho likes she claims to be building as she raises money going across the country. I think readers should be careful, but again, I am glad she survived.
