    Otherwise decent portable with serious design flaw
    I purchased the Technics SL-XP5 years ago new while in college. Sound is wonderful, decent controls. BUT on the player that I had and just about all the ones listed with rear photos of the door hinge you will see a crack on the right hand side end. The SL-XP7 (earlier and better designed unit) had a metal door hinge assembly and tensioner. The follow up SL-XP5 uses the same type of door tensioner but with a plastic hinge assembly. The plastic always seem to crack, too weak for the door tensioner after multiple open and closes. This causes the door to not latch and/or player to malfunction. A design flaw on an other gorgeous vintage CD player. Buy the earlier SL-XP7 instead.
