Powerful and rugged, controls a little iffy
1 of 1 found this helpful Crown made very good and powerful amplifiers. They use very good components that are not easy to source for replacement when needed. The PS 400 is very heavy and rugged with very good performance but the controls for gain are 31 position attenuators instead of potentiometers which are nearly impossible to source replacement parts. The other older models are more conventional and can be replaced except for the main filter capacitors which will need replacing eventually, but finding acceptable replacement large electrolytic capacitors are very difficult but possible if you use eBay to buy parts from China.
Crown made excellent amplifiers and still make very good amps today if you are willing to buy modern equipment that use switching power suppliers.
