Uncharacteristicly poor qualtiy.

Great detail. Extremely poor low speed performance. The engine moving with a visible "jerking" motion with operated at low speeds. Poor quality electronics. I have tried two of these units. The decoder appears to be a weak link. The first unit would only run in reverse. The second unit died after two minutes of testing.

Great locomotive, requires assembly.

Kato makes a great product as always. The level of detail is high and requires that the modeler install many of the details after receipt of the product. While this makes for a very nice locomotive esthetically, it requires considerable skill on the part of the modeler to install all of these details. You can not simply take it out of the box, put on your layout and enjoy the locomotive. If you are not into assembly, this might not be for you.

Nice detail, poor electronics

Very nicely detailed engine. Mechanically will made, although, the engine has a pronounced hesitation when operated at low speed. The worst problem is that the decoder appears to be of very poor quality. I have purchased three of these engines. One arrived with a dead decoder, in the case of the other two the decoder died within minutes of putting it on the test track.
