Tea and Cake London By Zena Alkayat
    11 May 2016
To be read while seated in a comfy chair with a cup of tea and a slice of cake!
This book covers over 70 places to partake of a cup of tea and a slice of cake, mostly everyday places but ones that are just that little bit better or a bit different from all the multi-national chains of cafes. Some of the grand and expensive Afternoon Tea locations are included plus some vegan and allergy-free places and some that are take-away only. Quite a few offer speciality and quality teas for sale too. The book covers Greater London as well as Central London and includes postal and email addresses and phone numbers, but no map to give an idea as to where they all are - probably because there are so many and they cover such a wide area of London that it would not be practical. Descriptions are quite comprehensive and the photos really make the mouth water. Could be read over 2-3 hours (I did). Small enough to put in your bag when visiting London but it is a little heavy for its size - there are 190 pages.
London's Afternoon Teas by Susan Cohen 9781847739933 (Hardback, 2012)

    Indulgent tasty treats
This book describes 33 places to have exceptional Afternoon Tea, both traditional and some a little different. It caters for many different ideas of what YOU think Afternoon Tea should be like. Covers mostly Central London but there are two or three a little further out. Some of the places described I would never have thought of for Afternoon Tea, or else did not know they did Afternoon Tea. None of them I suspect are cheap (prices not given) and some of the famous places are obviously very expensive but others much less so. A few places also cater for men in the form of a Gentleman's Afternoon Tea, which is more savoury. Small enough to fit into your bag when visiting London, to make sure you don't miss out. Photos are lovely, mouth watering. Full contact details, addresses both postal and email, websites, phone numbers and even which train, tube or bus needed to get there. In most instances you are probably advised to contact the establishment first to see whether booking ahead is necessary, the most expensive and most indulgent ones especially. There is a street map at the front of the book to give an idea as to where all the different places are but I did spot at least one error there, they have the numbers 32 and 13 the wrong way round! I think most people know where Fortnum & Mason is and it is not in Oxford Street! Can easily be read in a couple of hours or so in a comfy chair with a nice cup of tea!
