Excellent book, I will pass it on to my daughter.
I already read Christina's book. I was surprised to read about how she became the woman she is today. It was so impressive and so wonderful to have a daughter such as Christina. How proud her parents must be of her. I found myself so teary eyed and jealous of how she is so proud of her background. She feels no shame and it is so obvious how proud she is of her parents. Today's some latino children do want to hear where we came from and what we were all about. If they do listen, they say it happened years ago and times have changed.
They don't want to hear what foods we had to eat if any, where we would shower bathe or where we would sleep. How some of us migrated from state to state to make money to make ends meet until time came again to migrate. When we left school early, not knowing if we were going to pass to the next grade. When school began, we enrolled in late, we had so much to catch up as far as school work was concerned, we got the left overs of everything in school.
Our children have become ungrateful and expected things and not appreciate them. If I had followed my grandma's dichos,(my grandma raised me) maybe my children wouldn't have demanded so much. I whole heartedly believe in this dicho, "cria cuervos y te sacaran los ojos". As I have grown old, a grandmother myself, how I remember these same dichos Cristina talks about. I love this book.
I am very proud to have been raised by a Mexican-German grandmother. She was very out spoken and yet so loving. Thank you Cristina. My grandmother passed away April 2008, but I tell you she was so true to her word and her wisdom of dichos are in my heart. I now am teaching my 12 year old grand daughter to speak spanish and to let her know about my mexican hertiage of dichos and the wisdom that has taught us so much over the years. I recommend this book. I love it.

The Concise Columbia dictionary of quotations
I bought The Concise Columbia Dictionary of Quotations because it was at a very good price. Although, I found many of the quotations in this book hard to understand. As well as it is known, that one interpretation can mean many things.
I found that the older quotations have better understanding than of those used today. I found it hard to believe that someone found it intriging to quote actors whose logic made no sense.
However, with this being said, buy the book and you be the judge. I would have like to live years ago when the orginality of these indiviuals who became distinguished and are so very well known today.
Thank you,
Dora

Spectacular and very refreshing!
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought this movie for a particular reason. It brought back my childhood years. I saw this movie with my granddaughter, she loved it! I had forgotten that way back when, life was a whole lot simpler. We lived a very humbel life and we had a strick up bringing, but we had time to sing, laugh and dance. This movie is the best. It speaks for itself and whoever masterminded the idea that Hans would be loved as a cobbler was a genius. The whole town loved Hans. The children look forward to being around him. He made sure he expressed his love with his songs. What a way to bring out the best in children. A clean cut movie with no violence or vulgar language. There wasn't a thing I didn't like or enjoy about this movie.
