CLEVER & FUNNY & ENTERTAINING & WELL WRITTEN
Canadian Bacon is a riproaringly hilarious movie, it is very well written and directed by the legendary Michael Moore. There are some truly memorable comedy moments - the guns on the bus, the obscenity-ridden truck and the exploits of John Candy. It has a clever sub-plot which shows US Republican politics in their true light - the President needs a war to improve his ratings. There are elements of the seedier side of UK Conservative politics in this movie. The sadly-missed John Candy is a delight. Rhea Pearlman is also a joy. A fabulous family comedy which never fails to bring much laughter. Highly recommended.

FIRST CLASS BRITISH NAVAL WAR MOVIE
As classic British black & white war movies go, We Dive At Dawn is one of the best! It is well acted, atmospheric, believable and gripping stuff. Eric Portman is the hero of the piece who saves the sub when all looked lost and John Mills plays a superbly understated Captain of the sub. The whole crew are well cast and the action scenes at sea are better than most. A delightful 93 minutes of wartime entertainment.

GREAT VALUE SMARTPHONE FOR JUST £99.99 BRAND NEW
I am more than pleased with my Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830i smartphone. Bought last month on eBay for just £99.99, including Special Delivery postage, so an amazing bargain - Tesco Direct was £139 and Argos was £120 for this phone. I bought my phone from eBay UK member name "petals1503". Arrived brand new and sealed, with two original Samsung back covers (white and black), headphones, charger, battery, a 2Gb micro SDHC card, and small basic instructions manual and guarantee card. I then got the full 147-page instructions manual from a free download website, which I printed off and now have in a big A4 ring binder, all very useful. Within a couple of days, I bought from eBay a leather flip case (about £3), an 8 Gb micro SDHC card (approx £5), some screen protectors (cheap as chips), and an assorted variety of colourful replacement phone backs, including hard, ABS, gel, some with a free stylus pen etc. (between 99p and £2.99 each). The most essential things to buy are the screen protectors, to stop your screen getting scratched, and the 8Gb micro SDHC memory card. The memory card is important as, although the phone should come with a 2Gb micro SDHC card, by the time you add a few memory-intensive apps, your phone might be struggling to cope. The phone WILL take up to a 32Gb memory card, but Samsung recommend no bigger than 8GB, as this will not affect the speed of the phone and your apps. I bought the Galaxy Ace, because I was using a pretty geriatric Sony Ericsson mobile which, whilst doing the job, had only a 1.4" screen. The Galaxy Ace has a large 3.5" screen and I have found it remarkable easy to get used to. Calls and texts are all very easy to do, with a quick and intuitive system. A main reason for wanting a smartphone was to get it "paired" with the satnav's Bluetooth system in my new car. initially, I had tried and failed to achieve this by trial and error, so I looked up how to do it in the Galaxy's manual and the car's satnav manual. It was then a piece of cake and took only one minute. Now, every time I get a call whilst I'm driving, I just press one little phone symbol button on the satnav and the Bluetooth works wonderfully! By the way, my car is a VW CC GT. The only other related purchase was a phone holder for the car. Bought on eBay for just £4.49 with free postage from "mg_warehouse". Fitted it to the left side of the transmission tunnel using two screws and my battery drill. Works perfectly and doesn't get in the way. What else can I tell you about the Galaxy Ace? It looks great, it starts up quickly, the battery life is very impressive. The definition and colours on the screen are superb. It is very easy to use and to learn the basics. I must admit I have not, and probably never will, used the internet or email options. I mainly only use my mobile to make less than 20 calls per year and receive/send a few texts week. I transferred my existing SIM card and number from the old phone. I use Tesco Pay-As-You-Go service, which is quite amazingly cheap - e.g. I can call my friend's mobile in Thailand for 2p per minute! I'm planning to add a free satnav app to give me a back-up system, in case my car's satnav goes berserk. I've found another app to locate traffic jams ahead, speed cameras and the cheapest petrol prices in any area. For less than £100, the Samsung Galaxy Ace makes for an excellent smartphone, incredibly good value and so easy to set up and use. My rating is 10 out of 10.
