the x amish
1 of 1 found this helpful I bought this book because i am truly in awe of the way these people live, i cant see my kids or myself living how they do.. so i try to read all i can about them.. it was a very interesting book.. as it told true facts on what happened to them while living at home. and how they chose to leave their families and religion and try it in the english world.. as they call us.. it was very educational and made me feel for these people even more than i already do.. it is a must read book..

big business chasing out the amish from their homes
I liked the way it shows how the amish stick together, and they solve their problems not going to the police all the time.. I like the way they have trust issues.. and why wouldnt they.. people gawk at them like they are side show freaks.. they are normal people who believe in the way they live.. i love the way all the amish help each other.. it amazes me how they have big family dinners, and how all the kids that live close enough come home with their children, and grandchildren.. i love the way the family takes care of the elderly.. you dont see that happening around here.. it is a wonderful book, and i believe everyone should read it..that has any interest in learning more about the amish... what i did not like about this book, is how the rich people looked down on the amish, and how the big businesses think its nothing to take away farm land from the gentle people.. i did not like how the government seemed to side in with the big businesses.. i definately dont like how they are talked about, and how some people just think they can take their pictures, walk up and ask them questions, these are normal people.. with different beliefs that ours.. let them alone , and leave their property so they can leave land to their children, the united states has land that no one is using.. and there are big businesses in all the major towns, and some of the middle sized towns.. why bother these people.. its a wonderful book, please read it if you get the chance...

A Book about the life of this country Doctor
I enjoyed reading this book, in fact i couldnt put it down.. it showed how this country doctor not only was the amish peoples doctor but how he became their friend and confidante.. He could of been making alot of money but he chose to stay in the small town and change some of his strong beliefs like going to hospital to have a baby to having an amish midwife that stayed with the women until it was close to time for delivery and then send for him.. it also showed how he would do all he could in his office before sending them to hospital.. it showed how he gained the love and respect of all the amish and of the drs all around him . I would recommend the book to anyone who likes to see how the amish lived, and how an educated man and his family lived to help them.. I bought the book because i am truly amazed at the amish people and how they havent let the new ways of life change them or their beliefs.. everyone in this book was just amazing people.. it is something im sure anyone would love to read.
