Worthwhile tuning machine upgrade for Klusons
2 of 2 found this helpful I upgraded a 2015 Les Paul Classic with these Kluson Revolution 19:1 Locking Tuners because one of the OEM Kluson Deluxe (non-locking) tuning machines broke. This guitar came equipped with a bronze zero-fret nut, and I am also using a Schaller roller bridge on it. The combination of these three upgrades from a standard Les Paul has made changing strings, tuning, and intonation a snap. I finally can reach and maintain proper tuning and intonation with minimal effort. The 19:1 ratio is great since the tuning linearity is spot on - no jumping up and down as I adjust the tuning machine. No backlash either. Pitch stability is great even after performing multiple deep bends. These tuning machines are direct drop-in replacements for the factory-installed Kluson Deluxe tuners, no drilling or reaming is required. I've only had them installed for a couple of days, so I don't know if I can expect broken strings or other side effects, but it has been wonderful to finally get the guitar to be perfectly in tune and stay there for a while! This gets me thinking about adding a Bigbsy someday.
