Resident Evil 4 with even more intentional gimping.
1 of 1 found this helpful The Evil Within is very similar to Resident Evil 4 with a Silent Hill-esque story. The problems stem from trying to shoehorn in old survival horror gimping that has no place in modern gaming.
Main offenders: Bullets can land outside of your crosshairs(You can shoot a zombie in the chest at point blank and somehow still miss), Enemies do not stagger consistently(The game tells you shooting zombies in the leg will trip them, which is not always true), The game is letterboxed obscuring your vision in a game where you need to see crawling zombies and ceiling valves, Using matches to burn downed enemies is not fullproof as zombies can instantly swing at you while lying down which on the highest difficulty is an instant-kill.
Overall not a bad game but has too many flaws to take seriously. I recommend renting it, beating it, and forget about it.
