    MUST READ FOR NEW MOMS!
Someone gave me this book right after I had my first child. While I did not adopt 100% of the author's philosophies, the main message he communicates saved me!! He emphasizes getting your baby into a routine and that routine cycles in a particular order... and it makes life MUCH MUCH easier! I had worked in daycare prior to having my child... and babysat.... but nothing prepares you for those first days and nights and trying to help that little one sleep and eat and in a manner that they are happy and that YOU don't lose your mind! I had been feeding my baby every hour for parts of the day and night and letting it go to sleep afterwards.... NOT the way to go!! After a week of this I was a mess. Baby Wise helped me tremendously... I purchased this book for a friend who is expecting! I couldn't help but pass along the book that made me sane again!

Still a must read for new moms
I've seen some favorable as well as unfavorable reviews on this book and wanted to share my point of view.... While I did not care to follow the book precisely.... for example, I WANTED to rock my baby to sleep, and I DIDN'T MIND giving my child a pacifier when she went to bed..... I DID however take the author's basic message about getting my baby on a schedule of eating, awake time (which was roused by a diaper changing), then sleep.... followed by eating again and repeated. After a rocky first few weeks with my infant, I was a sleep deprived mommy who had been feeding every hour for parts of the night and day (since I was letting her fall asleep after eating). AS SOON AS I started the cycle of eat, awake, THEN sleep my daughter was immediately eating every 3 hours!! I was so relieved! I continued on this schedule and as she grew she gradually went longer between feedings and by 5 months was sleeping through the night without nursing! And while it took me until she was about 10 months old to get her to lay down add go to sleep without being rocked, I was completely okay with that! I was not willing to follow the author's advice to the letter...in terms of letting my baby cry it out in her crib, and a few other things.... HOWEVER I used my own judgement and tried to apply what I found valuable. Regardless of any book you need to do what you believe is best for your chlid. No one should read a book and do exactly what it says just because someone else said so. Find your parenting style and use books to help guide you. You still have to use your own brain.
