Picking scraps off the floor is a small price to pay for accurate seam allowances
Many (or all) sergers nowadays have the seam allowance guide BEHIND the knife. In other words, there's no accurate way to know how much you're cutting off as you sew. This gizmo corrects that design flaw because it sits in FRONT of the knife. It's not perfect though because, at least on my Janome 1110DX, once this seam guide in attached, the scrap-catcher bin cannot be set in place.
