New Found Land by Allan Wolf
In New Found Land, Allan Wolf tells the story of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in a unique way. He alternates between the perspectives of 14 different members of the expedition, sometimes in prose and sometimes in free verse. It is very historically accurate (which is important to me personally)and the characters really come alive. The way the verse is written really made me feel as if I were on the expedition, rowing a boat or chopping down a tree. It is also a lighter read, not bogged down in unneccesary details. It is very entertaining and enjoyable in addition to being educational. I'd recommend this book to anyone, but especially to anyone who loves history. My one and only problem with this book, as with any book on the Lewis and Clark Expedition, is that 3/4 of the book is taken up with reaching the ocean, and then it takes about 25 pages to get them all home. Then Allan Wolf goes through the deaths of many of the characters, some imaginied and some documented. It's just the teeniest bit anticlimactic. Overall, I love this book. I checked it out from the Library, read it, and immediately started trying to buy it. It's that good.

    These Is My Words
I had to read this book for a book group, but I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed it. The first 20 pages or so were hard to read, but after that I couldn't put it down. It is the story of a Pioneer woman in Arizona in the very late 1800's. There are plenty of historical details, which I love (things like hiking to the river for water or hanging laundry on the line). It made me feel like I was really in another time and place for a few hours. Being a romantic, I also loved the love story. I'd recommend this book.

    An Elm Creek Quilts Sampler
This book contains the first three books in the "Elm Creek Quilts" series by Jennifer Chiaverini. It is more bulky and awkward to read than the individual books. Still, I really love this series!
