Great Handheld GPS, not for amatuers
3 of 3 found this helpful The Magellan Triton 1500 is a great GPS, but it does have its headache of updating and downloading its updates and software. The first one I recieved would not work on battery power, and found it was from a defective clip that presses against the battery. I was able to return it for a new one and it has worked great! I had to download the update for the magellan twice, since the first time the device would not load up after turning on. So it is not user friendly as far as getting it setup, but once you get past all the setup stages you are home free!!
It works great, is easy to use, and storing waypoints, routes, and voice recordings are very simple as well. I use a 1 GB SD card to store my maps and waypoints and still have plenty of room to store more. I would recommend others to get this handheld GPS for hiking, fishing, and any other outdoor activity that would benefit from a GPS. The touch screen makes entering new waypoints fast and easy, and if your in a hurry you can always use the voice recorder to remind you of notes to store with each waypoint as well.
I would recommend this device to anyone with good software knowledge, to get through the difficult setup. Or if you know someone with good software knowledge to help you with the setup. I'm a young country boy that has about a 100 hours of college credits and was able to figure it out.
The main rule to follow is: DO NOT TURN THE DEVICE ON until you have already downloaded vantagepoint and are ready to update the GPS device. Then turn the device on wait for the boot up screen to clear and then plug in the USB cable. After you have updated the GPS device you can close vantagepoint and open NAT GEO and download maps straight on to the GPS. The maps are awesome and extremly detailed. I am truly a happy camper with my new Magellan Triton 1500 Handheld GPS device.
This is a great christmas present!
Thanks MA and PA!!!
