Christian Prayer - A Fantastic entry to the Liturgy of the Hours.
If you are hesitant in beginning to pray the official liturgy of the Hours this one-volume edition of Christian Prayer (THE LITURGY OF THE HOURS) will make it easier. It contains complete texts of Morning and Evening Prayer for the entire year, and if you purchase the St Joseph Guide for Christian Prayer No. 406/G you will have no problem in immersing yourself in one of the great traditions of the Church.
The copy I received is the black bonded leather edition which comes with a handy zipper to hold your treasured prayer cards etc. Printed in readable 10-point type with two colors. Gilt page edging with 5 ribbon markers. 2,080 pages, 5" X 7 3/4" X 1 1/2".
I use this each day and night to connect with other souls undertaking the opus dei of the church and I seldom travel without this copy as it is no bigger than a DVD case but three times thicker.
If you want to get into the liturgy of the hours but are put off by the 4 volume set then this is the best choice for you. Get it and connect with the church around you - you will not look back. God Bless.

The Cloud of Unknowing
Great read, if a bit heavy at times. For those searching for a more mystical appreciation of God this is a good introduction, before getting into St John of the Cross and his peers. I also found it to have a bit in common with Tibetan Buddhist treatises such as the concept of emptiness.
