Classic RPG feat. Voice Acting & smooth gameplay. Excellent must have game!
Purchased this game to replace the one that was stolen from my home, but originally bought the game because of word of mouth when it came out.
The game has great replay value, in that you must play it at least twice (choosing different starting heroes) to acquire all the different characters. Couple this aspect with a huge amount of possible ending scenes based on the hidden 'relationship' scores the characters develop as the game progresses and by exploring the many Private Actions sequences in towns, as well as the ability learn to craft nearly every single one of the hundreds (at one point my item list was over 500..) of items available, and you can easily enough see how the entire game experience can run into 80+ hours.
The battle system is fluid and built to render a 3D feel, allowing you to control a single character openly, and allows a limited amount of customizable AI tactics for the others.
There are plenty of seriously challenging fights, and many require you to think up strategies rather than spam single attacks over and over.
Some things that may drive players away from the game include the lengthy "story scenes" where you don't have any control other than speeding up the text boxes, and the ability to wander into areas where monsters are drastically more powerful than your team would normally be.
Compared to other RPGs of the era, this is by far one of the best and stands today as one of the greatest games ever made. If you like classic dungeon exploration, a sci-fi/fantasy storyline with the ability to choose who you will travel with and/or real time combat, this is definetly a must have for your collection!
