An electronic gadget that really has utility
I purchased the iPad 2 because so many apps are coming out in my field of psychology, and I gave up my activation of my iPhone2 because I rarely use the cell phone and the monthly cost was prohibitive. With the iPad I can use the apps without any monthly fees, it is easier to use due to large screen size and thus virtual keyboard offers greater speed of typing in searches compared to the iPhone. The internet is actually faster on my iPad 2 than on my iMac, and I can access it at the dining room table when thoughts come up during unscheduled times, and use it in my office to graphically demonstrate such things as appropriate deep breathing techniques, relaxation apps (many people have iPhones and thus can download the apps for their own use in between sessions), brain-behavior relationships, medication therapeutic ranges, etc. I've used the iPad to give presentations, connecting it to my projector, and the size and weight are great compared to using my Mac laptop with the projector. The battery life is not completely consistent with the 9 hours advertised. I get only about 4 hours of use between charges. The only other negative complaint is that all my friends (especially those who don't use Macs) tend to monopolize it once they see what it can do! I also enjoy the Re remote app (one of only two apps that I actually had to pay for, the others were all free) that allows me to use a large screen to combine all my remotes in the dark cinema room. Very nifty. I use the iPad so much more frequently than I ever did my iPhone. The usefulness of this device is well worth the price, I don't even use all those utube, e-mail, or game functions.
