"Personal Best" but not the Best
I am a long time fan of Monty Python and thought that the "Personal Best" DVD set was quite good, but I was disappointed that some of the most famous sketches were abbreviated for some reason (such as the "Dead Parrot" sketch, which I believe to be their #1 best). Still, many others are fully intact in incredibly funny. Much of this DVD set includes interviews with the various members of the original comedy cast: Terry Gilliam, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, John Cleese and Eric Idle. As you might suspect, the most humorous was that of John Cleese. After that it would be probably Michael Palin. Of course, there was no interview with Chapman as he is the only deceased cast member. In turn, each of them was asked to recollect their favorite sketches. In the majority of cases, the one's they picked were ones we would also choose. (Cleese's, "Ministry of Silly Walks;" Palin's, "The Fish Slapping Dance." Although this was not always true. For some, they referred to the German language episode, which is one of my all time favorites. Anyone remember "Der Bayerische Restaurant Stuck?" I though overall it was good buy and the seller was very good in most respects. However, if you want a better collection, your best best would be to buy the entire season by season DVD set. That way you can get all the comedy you want. Of course, the drawback is that the season by season disc set can be a bit pricey. In the final analysis, it would probably come down to a choice between cost and comedy. May you make the choice that is best for you.
