being gay in prison
one of the reasons I bought this film was that is it is a rare film and one can hardly find it anywhere, be it for rental or for purchase. Another reason is because I wanted to see how men treat one another inside a prison cell when they are forced to room together 24 - 7. It was an eye-opener for me to see how men treat one another when they are confined to a small place. I can't say for sure that this is what actually goes on in any prison, but at least one can only imagine the horrors of being raped in prison, especially if one is not gay.

the age old topic of alcoholism
Although Shirley Boothe is a stage actress and her film career is quite short, watching her in this real-life drama makes one believe that she is nothing but a movie queen: she manages to master every scene that she's in as a real pro. Also, Burt Lancaster is outstanding in his portrayal of Doc Danny. Along with The Lost Weekend, The Days of Wine and Roses, and I'll Cry Tomorrow, this film is one of the very best in dealing with the ageless topic of alcoholism.

Susan Smith on screen
Farrah Fawcett is as electrifying as she was in The Buring Bed and Extremities, among others. The same sad story of the notorious Susan Smith of one of the Carolinas, which captured the nation's attention when it happened back in the 1990s. I still can't phathom how on earth could there be a mother who would actually murder her little children for a man! Ms. Fawcett is as cold blooded, calculating, and merciless as she could be in her portrayal of Diane Downs in this real life drama which did happen in Oregon back in the 1980s.
