not what i wanted
If you're looking for a CD player, it is fine, although there are many just as good (or better) at a better price. I was hoping it could serve as an IPOD dock/digital transporter which I could connect to my Wyred4sound DAC but it doesn't work; either with the optical or coaxial output. I use the classic IPODs, with the 30 pin connection, not the lightning; yet it was not compatible to my DAC. So, I ended up connecting it to my Yamaha receiver instead which was not what I wanted. In any case, the TASCAM techs are useless; prior to buying it, I precisely asked them if I could make the desired connection and they were totally misinformed and told me that if I use my IPOD, I could only use the analog out and not the digital outs. In fact, they were only partially right; while I could not use the digital outputs on my DAC, I was able to connect digitally to my Yamaha receiver. I had just returned a TEAC CD-p650 which is almost half the price because of the same issue and it works exactly the same. So, I see no reason to buy this unit if what you're looking for is IPOD usage as the TEAC CD player sounded great and the USB offers more flexibility.

best CD recorder
3 of 3 found this helpful I've had the Phillips cd recorders for years; in fact, have had two of them. First I used it to record my Rock and Salsa record collections; they did fine, but when I started recording my Classical music collection, the 2nd one broke and I couldn't fix it. That's why I decided to try something new (besides, they were discontinued) and I chose what I thought was an "upgrade" by going "professional"; as opposed to the Teac. So far, I'm happy, It seems much better built than the Phillips was. The upside of the Phillips, is that it was a dual deck; this is a single one. The biggest upside of this one, is that finalizing takes no time; and that it keeps track of time in different modes (time remaining, time elapsed, etc.). I did find the separate "input levels" to be a little confusing and had to do research myself to calibrate them as the manual's explanation is lacking. I think the sound quality is good; certainly as good as I got with the Phillips and considering I am only using it to transfer LPs unto CDs; I can't really comment about anything else.
