Shows the True Spirit of Christmas
This first opera for TV generated great excitement and fully lived up to that when first broadcast Christmas ever of 1951.
Composer & librettist Gian Carlo Menotti was inspired by "The Adoration of the Magi" hanging in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
The three kings stop at Amahl's poor house and explain where and why they are going. The crippled Amahl is so impressed that he offers up his crutch in case the Child needs it.
Amahl must be young, and each year there was speculation about whether the previous year's lad was too old.
The quality of the video is good. The quality of the performance is great.
I'm planning to buy more to give to friends with whom I want to show my understanding of the real meaning of Christmas.
