Saint Seiya Myth Cloth Mermaid Thetis Scale Tamashii Nation Bandai
28 November 2015
Myth Cloth Mermaid Thetis
Mermaid Thetis from the Saint Seiya Myth Cloth line is a GORGEOUS figure. Made by Bandai's Tamashii Nations branch, her proportions, colors and details are spot on to the anime and her range of articulation is quite good, given that her armor almost covers her completely, proof of Bandai's advances in action figure engineering, since the Myth Cloth line's induction more than a decade ago. The sculpting and proportions of her body are almost lifelike, looking very organic while not wearing her armor, and her joints are neither too tight nor too loose. They're just loose enough to allow smooth mobility and tight enough to provide stability. When it comes to accessories, she includes the bare minimum. Extra hands for various action poses and expressiveness, an extra, smaller chest for when she wears her armor, as well as one extra face with her eyes looking to right, to give an enigmatic look. Most hardcore Myth Cloth collectors would complain about her more limited amount of extras, when compared to the Myth Cloth EX line, but I personally don't mind. It's just less to deal with. She also includes the "skeleton" to form the object of her armor, which as her title suggests, is a mermaid. I haven't bothered to assemble it myself, but based on the box-art, it looks great. There are however a couple of drawbacks. The first glaring issue I see is the color migration. This is when paint from one part, stains another after long periods of time. This is particularly common in some of Bandai's high end toylines, especially with figures that have bright, intense colors on light, colors like white or flesh tones. What really bothered me was that my Thetis already had some red stains from her armor, after only having it one once, and this was in the same day I got her. It doesn't help that her armor is a bright, pinkish red (or magenta) and that her body is white , with her arms molded in a very light flesh tone, that's almost white as well. But, I can attribute these to be common quality control issues. And also, the large, upper sections of her leg armor are separate pieces that are loose and easily slip out of the lower part, so you have to be careful not to let the slip out, though they are pretty easy to pop back in once you know how to align them into place. And then there's her mid section which is made up of two ball joints, one in her waist and one bellow her chest, both of which can pop out off place rather easily if you're not careful. Overall, this figure is amazing. This was a figure that the moment I saw it, I knew I had to have it, and she did not disappoint. As I already said, on looks alone, she is fantastic and her articulation allows for great iconic poses or what ever you can imagine, without her armor hindering her mobility. I have no regrets about having bought her and I highly recommend her to any Saint Seiya fans or fans of beautifully sculpted figures in general. -Alexis Acevedo-
