Good Start for a Great Vocabulary

I use this book with all four of my children, ages 6-12. We recently finished volume I and are only a few pages in this volume II. The format is easy to follow and I think it provides a great base for a better vocabulary and spelling. My oldest was thrilled when she realized how easy it was to spell photosynthesis by knowing basic roots. One upgrade to the second volume is the Greek spelling. It's cool and will help build familiarity with the Greek alphabet which my children will see often in future math and science courses.

Gentle Humor for Some Good Laughs!

Simple concept picture book that is universally funny. The pigs are trying so hard and getting it so wrong. Even though the results of the effort is not appreciated, the pigs themselves are celebrated so it is a very gentle read. I am always on the lookout for books that promote an appropriate sense of humor (I do not appreciate humor that is mocking or degrading to others.) I'm always excited to find true humor that reaches a broad range of children. Excellent book!

Fun Swedish Chimes that Herald Christmas Magic

Nostalgia reigns with this fabulous chime from Sweden. It's our new Christmas Eve tradition. My husband said he couldn't hear the bells; they are soft but if they were much louder it would drive us all crazy. The candles worked great to turn the fan and the angels made the bells ring. A little bit of Christmas magic...especially for me because I remembered having a set when I was much younger. Simple, beautiful and reusable every year.
