Excellent form-factor, superb performance, worthwhile improvements.
21 of 21 found this helpful I bought this camera to replace the SX230HS I had and to supplement my S100 and 7D when I want a compact camera with a long zoom, excellent image quality, and great low-light performance. This camera has all of those and more. I love the very compact size, but I also love the 'chunkiness' of it and the fact that it's easy to grip and feels very substantial. The added finger grip actually makes a big difference. I also like the fact that Canon listened and made the flash defeatable; in other words, you decide when it pops up, not the camera as was the case on the SX230HS. The only negative is fairly strong CA in harsh or demanding lighting, but there is software that fixes that, so it doesn't have to be a huge issue. The image quality is beautiful and the high-speed burst at full resolution is also nice. Low-light performance is surprisingly good and makes this a camera that you can really use in low-light situations. I comfortably use it at ISO 1600, and 3200 is passable, not something I would have said about a PowerShot just a few years ago. The improved focal range is fantastic and being able to shoot wide at 25mm or long at 500mm is nothing short of remarkable. The fact that it all fits in my pocket is even more amazing! I really love this camera, and that love grows the more I use it. It's definitely a worthwhile investment and an incredibly versatile camera that you'll find yourself picking up a lot.

1 of 1 found this helpful To put it simply, this camera produces outstanding pictures! The processor and sensor in this camera were the perfect combination (also the same combo in the Elph 330 HS, another incredibly impressive camera), much better than the SX60 HS that followed. I took this camera on an Alaskan cruise, choosing to leave my EOS 7D at home a few years ago, and am glad that I did. I took a couple thousand pictures and was most impressed with my results. Don’t be discouraged by the cheap, plasticky feel...this camera will deliver superb results! It’s great up to ISO 1600, and usable at 3200. Subject tracking is also good at reasonable speeds. Even at 7 years old, this camera is still an outstanding piece of gear!
