2A 12 Circuit Wires 240V AC/DC Capsule Slip Ring Apply for Electrical Systems
26 March 2018
Functional, compact and did what it claimed.
We needed a way to transfer six channels of 240 volt power from a fixed lighting rig to a revolving stage platform. Despite initial misgivings, the product functioned flawlessly over a period of four weeks. Upon arrival of the slip ring, I was surprised at how fine the wires were and had some concerns about the device meeting the claimed capacity. The wires were also aluminium, not copper, which also gave me reason for concern. However, after a test run powering two amps of incandescent festoon lights (the claimed maximum) at 240 volts through a single pair of wires for half an hour, I was pleased to see that there was no sign of the wires or the device heating, melting or failing. In service, the maximum loading was 1.5 amps per channel with a total load through all channels of up to 9 amps - close to the maximum allowable. The slip ring allowed dimming and flashing effects of the incandescent lights with no problems. In service, I would strongly recommend soldering the wires for minimum load resistance and never exceed two amps per pair of wires. The wires, being so fine, are very flimsy so extra physical support of the wires is a good idea . I used two layers of shrink wrap to give the assembly some stiffness so that the wires would not tangle as the platform turned. This worked flawlessly. The device claims a maximum 250 RPM capability, however this capacity was not tested. At the speeds we needed (no more than 2 RPM) the slip ring turned both ways, whilst powered and unpowered, smoothly and with no signs of sticking or binding. All in all, a successful application for this device and I was very pleased with the outcome and effects achieved. For the price it is a simple and effective way to transfer up to ten amps maximum power (2 amps per channel) from a static source to a moving load or vice versa.
220V AC 4000W SCR Variable Voltage Regulator Motor Speed Control Controller Fan

Works well with resistance loads.
This is a product that is good with resistance loads (e.g. incandescent lights, heating elements) but would not work as designed when I hooked it up to an asynchronous induction motor. The motor turned at its normal speed regardless of the setting of the controller and I would suggest that the motor would be drawing a lot more amps at the lower setting of the controller, putting stress on both the motor and controller. My guess is that if you want it to work with an induction motor you will need to buy a specialised variable speed motor. Although listed as a "motor speed controller" you need to check the type of motor you want to use. For dimming incandescent lights (and presumably dimmable fluorescent lights), heating elements and other resistance loads, it works well For motors, you will need to be sure that the motor you intend to use is compatible. It was cheap (about the price of a normal light dimmer switch) so there's not much lost if it turns out to not work with your application.

21 Hole 450 Sheets Home Office Paper Punch Binder Comb Binding Machine White
21 June 2018
Functional, compact size and easy to use.
I've used this binder on four documents so far and found it to be very easy to use and fairly quick as well. Up to 12 x 80gsm pages can be punched at once, so although I wouldn't want to be doing large productions runs on it, it's certainly up to the job for occasional binding. The instructions are clear and easy to understand and come with a paper quantity guide for each size of binding comb. It also works adequately well for slightly dog-eared pages, but you will need to reduce the number of pages per cut. Old documents should not give it any trouble. The unit claims a maximum of 450 pages and I see no reason why you couldn't meet or exceed that limit with the right comb size. The maximum size I've done so far is about 180 sheets. The unit only comes with a few 6mm binding combs, each of which will only bind about 15 pages, so you'll need to buy more. The binder uses standard 21 hole plastic binding combs. You can use larger than the recommended comb size so order the larger size comb if you're not sure which one you'll need. I found that a slightly larger comb makes turning the pages easier anyhow. A good product for a great price. The only criticism (which is hardly worth mentioning) is that once you put the handle on it, it no longer fits back in its box so you either take off the handle or find a bigger box to store it when not needed.
