When the Good Outweighs the Bad
Before you start reading this, let me get one thing out there and clear. I HATE MOTOROLA and their phones. But after looking over all the others, I settled with the KRZR K1m, which doesn't have a review page, so I'll add to this. I have lots of reviews about MP3 Players, PMP's, and even a Samsung A970 cell phone, so here goes. Pro: Loud Speakers,MP3 Player,GPS Navigation,Large Contact Book,Voice Commands, Touchscreen MP3 Player buttons, Bluetooth Cons:1.3 MP Camera, Non 2GB Micro SD Card Compatable, Somewhat "stripped" version of K1 The only real reason I'm writing this is to vent about all the things that should of been in this great phone. Overall, it's small, loud, and has all the bells and whistles and teen to late 20's kid would want. I don't see why the 2.0 camera was taken out for a downgrade to 1.3,maybe because the 2.0 was VGA and the 1.3 is Opitial? If this was meant to have MP3 function, then why does it have a meager 500MB of on board memory? Were they thinking that their users would really downgrade their songs to 48kbps or lower so they could fit more songs on? And why, just why does the K1 support 2GB Micro SD cards and the K1m doesn't? It doesn't make scene. You can put in the SD card, but it won't read the the 0.7GB rest... WTF Stop screwing customers. If a singular customers gets all the extras, don't shortchange the rest of the Carriers.

Pulling Out All the Bells
Archos has this problem, it's sorta simple.... When they screw up one line of products (The AV Series) they tend to not correct the present mistakes in future lines (The 04 Series) Pros: Wifi, Touchscreen, Bigger Buttons, Millions of colors Cons: Nothing has been changed from ANY of the following models: 404,504,Non Wifi 604, and the as of 3/27/07 released 704. NOTHING. They all the same problems Whats wrong is a combination of mistakes, but their mistakes that were needed in a way to cut corners and save on costs or I think the real retail price for these products might be a few hundred more. Video Playback + Music Playback I'll combine this and make it short. All the 04 Series suffers from a lack of Codec Playback in general, sure it can play all the major file types, but who in their right mind would 1st off pay a good $400.00+ for something that you still have to pay $40.00 more to download new firmwire upgrades to play DVDs and H.264 codec? Why not just allow oh i don't know... FREE upgrades and not just when a new version is out. Can Play: AVI,WMV, Some versions of MPEG,(VOB,OGM,MKV, AFTER A $20.00 DOWNLOAD) Can Play: MP3,WMA,WAV (ACC,OGG,MKA,VOB AFTER ANOTHER $20.00 DOWNLOAD) Yes, a $20.00 download to play VOB's, which are DVD files, and ANOTHER $20 for the H.264 codec that allows for Dual Audio files like MKV and OGM. Can NOT Play:MP4,ACE,APE,Flac,Loseloss,Flash Files,QuickTime or RealPlayer files THE LIST GOES ON Battery Battery Hog. Make sure to turn down the screen brightness in the options to extend the life about 2x the amount that I'm about to post is what the normal life of the battery Music: 6 to 18 Hours Movies 4 to 8 Hours I've been able to watch all three Matrix movies and have 1 bar left Wifi + Touchscreen Cool. I have Wifi, I can be online anywhere at anytime. Wow, whats this? Wifi takes forever to load the pages on my 4.3 inch screen, Whats this? I can't load up flash screens like YouTube,MySpace or Google Videos? What? Remember now... Internet + Hard Drive = Possible Viruses, yes I haven't heard of any Wifi viruses, but this is a Hard Drive, and it doesn't have virus protection or anything like a Firewall... Oh, and I've heard from Archos Customer Support that they've been getting alot of complaints or something about faulty Touchscreens...Go figure Storage 30GB's...WAY TOO SMALL.PERIOD. My Archos 20GB Jukebox Recorder came out in 1999, you'd think that this thing could at least have an 80 or 160 like the higher models. 30GB's doesn't cut it anymore. Battery Recharge Cycle I'd like to spend the last part about a topic I find the most important, because this is a high cost down the road. What this is basally in a nutshell: The battery that is being used is Lithium-Ion, which is also used in iPods,Nintendo SP and DS, among many others. This type of battery is good for recharging because of the way it conducts electricity and how it can keep a charge over and over again. The bad part is: It can only do so over a few hundred charges, then the battery is shot. There's a process called "The Battery Recharge Cycle" where say you have a a fresh battery you charged to 100%, then drained it, it should recharge back to 100%, only if you drained it to 0% every time. Say you recharge when it's at one bar, and you do this over and over again, the theory is that the device will remember the that place and only recharge there everytime. Long story short,Your going to wind up paying $30.00 for a new battery once a year.

Square-Enix's last hope for RPGs on the 360?
Star Ocean: The Last Hope is the latest entry in the Star Ocean series. It is most similar to the last game, Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. You visit a handful of planets, help people out of sticky situations, and end up in quite a big mess yourself. The short and sweet version: Plot: 7/10. The weak point. It doesn't really go anywhere until the final disc of the game. Graphics - 9/10. Beautiful, although there are some noticeable flaws. A huge step up from SO3. Gameplay - 10/10. Great battle system, and easy to understand controls and mechanics. Sound - 10/10. The voice acting fits the characters great and the music provides a feeling of adventure. Overall - 9/10. Plenty to do, plenty to see. This game is by far one of the best JRPGS on the Xbox 360. Do yourself a favor and pick this game up. The long version: Plot. 7/10 This section features small spoilers for the first 2 hours of the game. The plot starts out with you playing as Edge Maverick, a 20 year old member of the Space Reconnaissance Force. You are on your way to the planet Aeos alongside your team and childhood friend Reimi aboard the Calnus, your squads ship. It crash lands, and after a scuffle with some hostile creatures, you are sent out along with Reimi to investigate. It turns out the ship was taken over by the monsters. A giant, nasty one attacks and you are assisted by Faize, a young man from the planet Eldar. You defeat it, and report back to your captain. He, along with the captain of the Eldarian force called to help your squad, suggest you take Faize and Reimi and investigate other inhabitable planets. You visit many planets on your journey, and the plot finally picks up on the 3rd disc, near the very end of the game. Gameplay. 10/10 The best part of the game. The controls aren't hard to figure out at all. A attacks, you move with the analog stick, L and R do special attacks. More advanced things can be done by pressing the Y button, which brings up a menu of Spells, Items, the ability to swap party members mid-battle ( ! ) and so on. The battles are very fun, although somewhat easy on the 2 difficulties available from the start. Overall, there are 4 difficulty settings. Earth, Galaxy, Universe, and Chaos, which are Easy, Normal, Hard, and Very Hard, respectively. After you beat the game, however, some bonus dungeons are able to be done, which are much harder and geared towards more experienced Star Ocean players. Overall, gameplay is simple, yet very fun. Graphics. 9/10 The graphics in Star Ocean TLH are, in a word, beautiful. The environments are incredibly varied and large. It's mesmerizing looking around at the landscape of the different planets and ships in the game, and all the detail and work that must have gone into making these fantastic locales. The areas you visit range from a lush forest on the coast of an ocean, to a planet split down the middle in terms of terrain, with one side being a grassy plain with some forests and one side being a huge frozen lake and some snowy mountains. The character designs are, for the most part, great. Edge's armor in particular is very detailed, in all, the graphics are almost perfect. Overall - 9/10 There's plenty to do and plenty to see in SO:TLH. The average gamer will clock in at the end of the game around 50 hours for a barebones run through. With dozens of sidequests, an arena, 2 bonus dungeons, and 900 battle trophies to collect(That's 3 times as much as Star Ocean 3!) it's very likely you'll at least.
