Scary Kids break through with "City Sleeps in Flames"
I bought "The City Sleeps in Flames" with the intentions of hearing an excellent CD. What I got was pretty darn close. "The City Sleeps in Flames" begins its beauty with the original title, "The City Sleeps in Flames". The catchy chorus belted out by vocalist Tyson Stevens had me going the entire song.
Its fast pace was nothing in comparison to the second track, "The Only Medicine". Only Scary Kids Scaring Kids can pull off all that screaming blended into smooth melodies. The nice guitar solo made this song easy listening throughout.
"The World as We Know It", the album's third track, started out slow and rocky. This continued throughout most the song, excluding the chorus-which I enjoyed. This song was probably my least favorite of the album.
"What's Said is Done" picked back up on the stability of the album. This emo track had my attention the entire track.
"Just a Taste" was pretty blah at first. The chorus made up for the bland beginning with a catchy message about not being good enough.
"My Darkest Hour" is easily the most popular song of the album. The entire song is excellent and Tyson's voice is amazingly awesome throughout.
"Drowning You in Fear", starts ferociously with screaming lyrics. However, the song gets monotonous in a hurry.
"The Bright Side of Suffering" grows in interest until the chorus, where it falls off. The screaming near the end is pointless for a song of this stature. "Empty Glasses" was one of my faves. The chorus is awesome, catchy, and is hard resisting singing along.
Nearing the end of the album we reach "Faith in the Knife". Looking for a song to begin closing out the album, I was disappointed at what was playing. While it was just like many of the others, it seemed worse. A disappointing song to have on the record.
The final song, "A Breath of Sunshine", was much anticipated. The lyrics related to my life so I felt part of the song. A typical emo album ending came upon the album. The final words, "There's static on the airwaves", fade out to an instrumental ending.
Overall, "The City Sleeps in Flames" struck a match. With catchy choruses and the smooth lyrics of Tyson Stevens along with some great instrumental solos, it's hard to not enjoy listening to this album.
