Transformers 20th Anniversary Masterpiece - Optimus Prime *For Parts / Repair*
23 November 2016
I love the MP-01 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime Mold!
To date, this is still my favorite version of Optimus Prime. I know many will say the MP-10 mold is superior and I have it and enjoy it as well, but I consider MP-01 to be superior in many ways and the better figure overall. I love the gimmicks: the moving mouthplate; the pistons that extend and retract when flexing the elbow, wrist, knee, and foot joints; the flip out wrist communicators; and the light up Matrix of Leadership. I love the design. While MP-10 bears a closer resemblance to the old '80s cartoon, this version has better proportions (no gorilla arms or stubby legs like MP-10) and at two full inches taller, makes for a much more impressive display. He has quite a bit of die cast: the lower legs and the chest panels. There are a few downsides to this figure, though. His truck mode is somewhat less impressive than his robot mode. He is not in scale with any of the other Masterpiece Transformers aside from MP-5 Megatron (although there is a recent trend of KO companies producing MP Transformers in this scale). And, as previously noted, the later released MP-10 Optimus bears a much stronger resemblance to the original G1 cartoon than this one and it has a much nicer truck mode (albeit with a ludicrously thick back section).
