Good lens with D500
A nice lens for a D500. Saturation and sharpness are very nice.

Maybe too Good
The 105mm AI/S gets a lot of good press. So, this D version was gotten (I like the D models (and AI/S too)), Wow! OK... lens is fantastic. The output reminds me a lot of the 180mm f/2.8 D. Saturation, contrast, and sharpness are as good or better as any other 16 lenses owned. The focal length makes it a favorite for outdoor portrait shooting. The Micro capability hasn't really been given a fair shot, but it does seem OK (not as good as the 60mm D yet). So yeah, you won't be disappointed with this lens if you get a good one.
