Taylormade R7 XD Fan
I generally shoot from a 85 to a 89. A great round form me is 80-82. My first round with these after a brief bucket at the range 82. I upgraded from a nice Adams set that were graphite shafts. This set has the Taylormade stiff steel shafts, not a big fan of the other option of steel that they come in which is the S300 shaft. That shaft never seemed to fit my swing correctly. First of all lets get to the distance. I bought them for consistent iron hits and not for D. The distance is fine but after my first round today I have to say I didn't notice much of a distance increase from the Adams. Maybe half a club so far. I will have to see if that goes up as my confidence increases. I have good swing speed and have always gotten great height(maybe a little too much height but I'll sacrifice a little D to get the ball to sit faster) and these clubs fit my swing well. My distances are as follows (distances are what i can sit the ball down on the green with, not a round out shot). I use a skycaddie to track my shot distance and to be as accurate as possible. Adams Insight Driver - 250-265 Average (280-312 cranked with all I got) Adams Insight 3 Wood - 230-240 Adams Insight 5 Wood - 210-220 3 iron 195 4 iron 185 5 iron 175 6 iron 165 7 iron 155 8 iron 145 9 iron 135 pw 125 sw 56* 100 (they also make a AW, 54* SW, and LW that i don't have) The stiff shafts are great and definitely helped my accuracy as the softer regular flex graphite shafts I had tended to make the ball drift a little before. Large face that provides confidence. Didn't hit anything that really was way off center on the face today but I did catch a 3 iron about center toe on a 198 yard par 3 it still made it to the front fringe of the green and didn't hook or slice which I was really pleased with. All in all I am a fan with no real complaints after one round. Don't expect to gain 20 yards like some people claim. Or at least I didn't(which I'm good with since that would make short shots very difficult since I would be in between clubs alot). Unless maybe your playing knock offs or something from a decade or two ago.

Short Game leads to 80's.
I have played mostly Taylormade or Adams Irons over the years. But I generally only carried up to a SW in my bag. Mistake. By spending alot of time at the practice greens instead of the range I was able to do a lot of work on correct club and correct shot shape with the wedges. Ultimately what it has done for me is turn a bogey or double bogey start into a par or bogey by sitting my chip close enough to the hole to have an opportunity for a 1 putt or 2 at worst rather than the dreaded 3 putt. Lets be honest birdies come from a solid drive and a solid followup close enough to one putt. Short wedges like these are the rescue when you didn't get on the green with that followup shot. They are also great on par 5's when you have put it in that 20-70 yard range with your second shot. Thats when you can really attack for a birdie with the correct club rather than trying to baby a pw or sw. They are shaped toward the blade side so you need to be aggressive with these clubs to be successful. Once you trust the 60 degree to take a "Phil" swing with it you will open up your short game and start playing the "correct shot" rather than a shot you are comfortable with. Bump it, lob it, spin it, you got it with some confidence with this set. All in all it helped my game get from 90-93 to 83-88. Took about 3 trips to the range to start to trust them. Took about 5 outings on the course to try every shot. 60 degree takes the most work to trust. But is the sweetest club when you do. This is the second time I have had a set of these. I sold mine before when I tried to switch everything to taylormade r7 xds. But the wedges that you can get for them are much less bladed so I had trouble with the short shots and tended to have to much D. So I'm back with a mixed bag and I couldn't be happier.
