A very nice speaker for the money
I don't know that I'd pay list price for these, but I have to say I'm very pleased with both the quality of the sound and the mounting system. They're as good or maybe even better than the Bose speakers I used at our previous house. The usual problem with speakers of this size (and the outdoor construction materials) is the dishwatery base. These do pretty well. The mid and high ranges are very good.

"Cold" should make you cold--it does!
This was our first read of Smolens' works, which we picked up at the library because we'd just moved to the UP, it's our first winter here, and we wanted to see how a noted UP writer dealt with this season that we've heard so much about--and couldn't wait to experience for ourselves. Well, it's a fine read. Smolens is a master of understatement, which we very much like. Life up here is a little different from the rest of the lower 48. The people are a little different. Smolens picks up on these subtleties and portrays them in a way that we can both recognize and appreciate. And the cold? Well, it gets COLD up here. And this book nails it. We've since read more of Smolens' books and, while they're good, this one remains our favorite. "Fire Point" comes in second.
