Well, years ago, I began using Steve Mizerak's method. . .damp rag, super-fine emery cloth, Ronsinol lighter fluid rub down and then final rub-down with a 100 dollar bill (supposedly there is something in the ink). This stuff is a lot easier and cheaper.

Inexpensive is one thing. CHEAP is another. These things are so cheaply made you would have a hard time giving them away, especially given that they are as ugly as the south end of a donkey headed north.

How to avoid steel pipe chimnay fires.

I can only HOPE this thing is working properly. How could I really know until I get a chimney fire? I trust that it is doing what it is supposed to hanging magnetically from my stove pipe.
