My Father's Son - Ricky Skaggs (CD 1991)
Ricky Skaggs is a unique entertainer in the country realm. With a string of hits on mainstream country in the 80's, a member of Nashville's Grand Ole Opry, an outspoken supporter of the US military and and fund raiser for the Appalachian poor, he's well known in country circles. But he's an even bigger star in the Blue Grass field, and his Christian faith is never more apparent in this blend of country, bluegrass and gospel songs. With his cover of Waylon Jennings' ONLY DADDY THAT'LL WALK THE LINE (with Waylon singing along) to touching ballads like SOMEBODY'S PRAYING and FATHER KNOWS BEST, Skaggs shines with his superb harmony and heartfelt vocals. And everybody appreciates his talent as a musician. If you are a fan of gospel, blue grass or country, you'll definitely want to add this CD to your collection.

Take It To The Limit - Nelson, Willie (CD)
Willie and Waylon go together like peanut butter and jelly, Batman and Robin, or rock and roll. With Willie's superb guitar skills and Waylon's soulful harmonies, these outlaws really showcase their talents and exude lifelong friendship. One of the earliest follow-up's to Willie's huge ALWAYS ON MY MIND in 1982, this album never really gathered the critical praise it deserves. While their covers of the Eagles' TAKE IT TO THE LIMIT and Simon and Garfunkel's BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER, the mournful ballad WE HAD IT ALL alone is worth the purchase price of this CD. And this duo's cut of OLD FRIENDS (which Willie also cut with the late Roger Miller) is excellent. While this album does not compare to their classic THE OUTLAWS or the later CLEAN SHIRT, it's vintage Willie and Waylon at their peak. Any fan of outlaw country will want to add it to his/her collection.
