Nicely constructed but disappointing in use
Bought this item to pump paraffin from a tank where the location makes it impossible to siphon. It involves raising the liquid about three feet. Out of the box the item appears well made. In use, right from the start it was clear it wasn’t taking up anything like 500cc per cycle, more like 100 or 200. The pump was entraining a lot of bubbles into the liquid, it was almost like pumping foam. This was despite making sure the end of the inlet hose was well below the surface of the liquid in the tank. After the best part of two hours I’d only shifted 30 litres and gave up. On packing away I noticed that the union where the plastic inlet hose joins the pump body had worked loose and was spinning freely. It is probable this was admitting air and compromising the pump’s operation, suggesting the thing hadn’t been assembled properly. The union refuses to re-tighten. I’ve not investigated further at this point, but it may be possible to fix if I can get the body of the pump dismantled.
