    Denon dcd-625 A Bargain?
it has to be said that these players can be had for as little as 30 or 40 quid in auction format, and for that you do get a lot of player, they look decent with the smooth black alli front and would fit in well with any black seperates hifi. hooked upto a system consisting of an A&R Cambridge arcam alpha amp (1984 model) and a pair of celestion ditton 25's proved what i already knew, that this cd player was an absolute bargain. first of all i tried a friends pioneer deck on my system, one which is apparently highly rated and will fetch upwards of 60 quid private. with the corrs unplugged, snow patrol up to now disc 2 and r.e.m singles collective doing the testing the pioneer slightly dissapointed, the high end lacked rythem and was slightly dulled, bass response was resonable but not brilliant considering the ditton 25's knack of punching, the pioneer only served to prove what ive always believed, that denon despite some bad press are the real deal, the dcd-625 produced a lovely warm but deeply detailed and rythmic sound, vocals were clear and precise and not too bright, the high end came to life after the pioneer's meagre attempt and bass response was impresive, it was more fuller, more tighter and sounded litterally totally in control, overall very very impressed for something that can be had for as little as 30-40 quid in good condition, if your one of the many people looking out for maybe something like a nad c521 player but havnt quite got the cash i would say look for a denon dcd-625 or even the dcd-710, ive owned a nad c520 before and believe the denon is just as impressive
