Garmin Fenix 6X Pro GPS Smart Watch - Black with Black Band
19 August 2021
My ideal running companion!
Bought this watch as an upgrade from the Garmin 645 Music, and an upgrade it is! Nice big screen, an improved UI (especially around the alarms and timer functions), the watch sits comfortably on my wrist, and the battery lasts about three weeks even with exercises tracked most days.
One feature I wasn't expecting, but have come to use frequently are the daily recommended exercises. Basically the watch suggests a run (or rest) for each day based on the previous weeks' exercise load. After a few weeks it feels like the recommendations are useful and fitting to how I'm feeling physically. Time will tell how my stats improve (VO2 max estimate and lactate threshold have already seen some improvement), but to me it takes a bit of the mental load out of planning my runs.
As with all these wrist based trackers, you'll get more accurate (and thus, useful) stats if you pair it up with a chest HRM during exercise, I use the cheapie Garmin HRM1G, which works fine.
I wouldn't have paid the full retail price, but got it new for under 50% RRP and at that price it is well worth the outlay in my books.
