Jackie
Jackie was 70+ when he recorded this. There's a little rust on his voice but it never crumbles; he always gets where he's trying to go. One of the great Jazz singers. As for the guitar playing it is rustless, spot on . I always wondered why he gave up playing for so long. So long in fact that the writer of the liners makes the claim that he had never been recorded playing while singing before. Actually his very first records featured him on guitar - The Jackie Paris Trio on MGM, from the late 1940s. His last record before he reappeared in the mid-Seventies was his 1962 Impulse LP, where he plays guitar on four or 5 tunes.
Anyway this is a great CD. His version of Tis Autumn may be the equal of the one on Impulse and could have been better had the second verse not been dropped. It's very hard to find to find anyone close to the level of Jackie Paris. It's also hard to find this CD. So grab it if you ever see it.

LRS 20 will NOT replace the LRS 6
Despite what the box states the LRS 20 does NOT work as a replacement for the LRS 6. Somehow Garrard stated it does. It does not. Maybe for the other AR adapters, but not the 6. There is mention of this flaw to be found online.

Another Jackie
Having just reviewed a Jackie Paris LP, ebay has thrust another Jackie my way, asking for a review. This is of course a super famous Blue Note session. Everybody who likes the "out" stuff knows this is early on. Grachan Moncur was such a great composer. Glad that Jackie could see this. Wish that the World had embraced G.M. more.This record has been reviewed so many times that there's not much else to say. Mono of course makes it hit harder - RVG and all that. GREATNESS.
