Star Trek - Ascendancy - Strategy Board Game
20 April 2017
A great thematically LIGHT 4x game!
This board game combines some interesting mechanics with a light 4X game mechanic. Regardless of whether you have an interest in Star Trek, I recommend you at least try this game as a gateway into other 4X titles. For those that love Star Trek, you won't be disappointed with the thematic feel of each Faction. Doesn't always happen but bad luck of dice and planet reveals can cripple a player for the entire game. However that player can still play a part in the universe as it unfolds. And recovery can occur with initiating a strong trade agreement with another player. Pros of particular note: Easy to set up (once you are familar with the game) Simple rules for combat, planetary invasion, resource collection and diplomacy. Strong thematic Factions to play More factions via expansions Some but minimal downtime between player turns Plays well at 3 player, great at 4. Noteworthy Cons to mention: Confusion on the advantages of Warp vs Impulse travel. Most players will use Warp.

Love Letter with a variation
Having played this quite a few times I would have to say this is one of the better variations of Love Letter. Throwing a hidden character in play makes the game just slightly different enough to make it worth buying another LL game.
