Have fun hunting for a great deal on a beautiful coin.
2 of 2 found this helpful I purchased a 1919 Mercury dime certified by PCGS a third party grading company. What drove me to purchase this coin? Well, I started collecting coins when I was younger. I always liked old things and appreciated the history connected with it. My coins were not worth that much at the time but it gave me a start learning. I've learned coins from this time period were not saved in large quantities. Having a dime then would be equal to having two dollars now. Probably no more than 1,000 exist that show no wear (uncirculated) out of 35.7 million made. That would mean 1 out of every 35,700 produced survived. If you compare that to say a proof 1950 Franklin Half dollar 51,000 were made 35,000 are still around and that coin will cost 300-400$. With a little searching an uncirculated 1919 mercury dime can be found for 200$ and its 30+ times as rare as my example. Have fun hunting for a great deal on a great coin.
