Honest and objective, just straight talk.
Michael Scheuer has developed quite a name for himself with regards to his expertise and unbiased perspective when it comes to examining the predicament that the West and U.S. finds itself in with the Islamic world/Middle East. As an expert myself, I am always looking forward to hear what Michael has to say and for someone with so much upfront and intimate knowledge on how our gov't and Intelligence operates, he is with out a doubt invaluable to helping explain what is going on to the naively ignorant broad-public. This book is in essence an Iraq Study Group & b9/11 commision report all combined in one. He tells it like it is and does not white-wash the pages with buearcratic BS like the former 2 prints do. What is most fundemental here, is his ability to take on the perspective of the "enemy" and discuss to the reader what are their motivations, aims, goals, and in essence their "final agreeable" terms to cease hostility agains the U.S. and the West. Scheuer also does the neccessary and often neglected task of pointing out how the question of Israel affects this whole paradigm that the U.S. and others are enthrawlled in. It is for these reasons that this easy and blunt reader is a must for anyone whom wishes to gain a better grasp or simply gain basic insight as to what is going on in the world....... NOTE: I read this book in 2 days because I simply found myself notbeing able to put it down because it was always revealing more information and solutions on how to handle our problems.

An Honest-Truthful look at the middle-east problem
6 of 6 found this helpful Never has there been a book that will more accuratley solidfy and represent a presidency as well as his legacy than Jimmy Carter's latest book does. A man of great integrity and honest appeal to all that is good in mankind he presents a most blunt, accurate, truthful, and un-biased assesment of why there continues to be unrest in the volitale region that is the Holy land. No other U.S. representative of any level or stature has had more experience and an intimate understanding of the problems of this land than Mr. Carter does. He like I have frequented the Israeli/Palestinan territories enough times to understand that there is only one true instigator in this whole conundrom that we call the Holy Land, and that instigator unfortunatly is the Israeli government but more accuratle the hawkish/extremist element-members of it.
What is more unfortunate is that we the United States have been the green-light behnind this oppressing government for too long and with sadness too late. What started out as American aide to an ally under attack and in fear of their nationhood has turned into a severe and perverted ideaolgy that always thinks its under attack and thus allows for the pre-emptiveness in its actions to occur. THIS is the cycle of violence that has been going on for years and of late during the recent years. Jimmy Carter has understood this point for a long time and the recent global anti-americansim sentiment that has spread like a wild-fire due to our forgien policy in this area as well as in the region has obviously compelled a former and presently great individual to speak up and tell the truth so that Average America can understand why we are disliked.
Nothing proves the legitmacy and worthiness of this book than by simply looking at the recent counter-attack which has come from a few measured sources of power. Those people understand that if word was to get out of the honest truth as to why the Palestinains keep fighting the way they do, then surely it will begin the decline of our relationship with Israel and the extended strings attached that come with it. It is people of this corrupt ideal that Jimmy Carter is out to do battle with , and no one is more qualified for the job than he his.
This book is written for all of America and all those of deep faith with non-skewed values on what our exsistence as humanbeings is all about. more importantly it is for the youth of American and furthemore of the world for they will be the ones whom will have to deal with the consequences of our actions in that region. As Mr. Carter's dedication states, "this is for my first born great-grandson, with the hopes that it may guide you and others alike to a more peacful and free Palestine".
History will most surely prove Jimmy Carter's legacy as the best since Abraham Lincoln, for they are the men that we seek & strive to define ourselves after. Men of honest integrity, hard workmanship, and nothing but honest peace in mind for all of God's children.
THIS IS A MUST READ IN ANY CRASH COURSE ON THE MIDDLE EAST AND HER PROBLEMS, ESPECIALLY IN THE HOLY-LAND!!!
