This unit does not emit the initial unpleasant odor commonly associated with quartz heating tubes, unlike the radiant heater I previously purchased from Bunnings. There was odor from the base initially but that dissipated quickly. Base is sturdy, overall construction is great, all smooth finishes and no sharp edges. The pull cord (adjust the heat level) feels thin but durable enough. The heater can become bright, so I'm using it with an AC dimmer at night in a bedroom.
