Impressive
Gráda, a young group from Ireland who play traditional Irish music blended with contemporary fusion. What might be a good example of this is the occasional addition of brass and drummer to the primary components, (flute, guitar, fiddle, upright bass and bodhrán). Acoustically they display incredible depth and diversity together, both with skill and style. Gráda achieves an infectious, Irish folk rhythm that is captivating by its own. Really talented, admirably energetic and purely amazing, a live concert experience is highly recommended when given the opportunity. From the beginning I've been partial to the instrumental tracks. But the more I examine their songs, the more I am charmed. Beautiful vocals and freshly creative lyrics that are in a way a pleasant suspect of the Irish psyche, brushed by authentic roots. The group is definitely worth a closer look in general. To Gráda newcomers choosing to buy one CD, I would strongly suggest Cloudy Day Navigation. The bonus disc, a DVD featuring 35 minutes of video (live performance in Dublin) plus more audio samples (from previous releases, playable only in DVD) makes it an ideal introductory album. A good value for the money.

Sweet and Savory
Very honest, very well written. The author sums up his opinions and travel experiences in fact the essence of travel itself very nicely. Short, inside soundbites from select episodes make it a quick, easy read. Satisfies the craving for some fresh Bourdain perspective. The book's collection has some beautiful, inspiring portraits that stand-alone. And illustrates some not too pretty scenarios of the traveler's vulnerability. Apart from the production focus on the TV series, Bourdain communicates and justifies quite simply the importance food should have in travel. Encouragement is offered for seeking out its delights, even providing clues to survive the discomforts of such foreign gastronomic adventures. It's a recommendable, entertaining book not only for fans but also the aspiring traveler as well.

Disappointing
Very witless and boring. Not long does the reader begin to relate with the Kiwi viewpoint; this guy tends to talks too much and pointlessly. Inadvertently becoming a published example of the tall-poppy, which as the author describes is a common egalitarian perspective among New Zealanders. Although this book can be potentially encouraging to those interested in a prolonged migration to New Zealand, but only of marginal help. Rambling highlights are given from the author's psychoanalytic interpretation of national history and natural beauty. Not to forget the personally guided tour North to South privileged with mundane details, a few color photos and a glossary. What I found most interesting was the author's conversation with Sir Edmund Hillary, but I skimmed most of the book with increasing loss of attention. I was hoping to find an intimate connection into the soul of New Zealand and was severely disappointed. It's not much better than a guidebook full of facts and stats. The book does not deliver entirely what it implies. Leaves a bit to be desired, even edited.
