Cyclamatic Power Plus Cx1 Electric Mountain Bike W/ Lithium-Ion Battery
27 April 2020
Rated: Very fair 5/10 about half as good as a 10/10 higher end e-bike, but only a 3rd of the price; and so not a bad choice as a 1st e-bike.
Ten days in and I would so far, absolutely recommend this inexpensive Cyclamatic Power Plus CX1 e-bike for anyone who may need an easier ride with some exercise on the road. There is far less sweat involved with the ability to do commuting and very gentle off-roading; E.G. dirt lanes/ track paths only. The quality is basically good at this price point but also mixed, by this I mean that the motor and battery seem good and the shimano gears; but this is not a true mountain bike off-roader. It does not have a light weight balanced frame at this low price, with proper dirt track tyres and hydraulic disk brakes and so on. It's frame is steel and it's very strong but also heavy. You are mainly paying for the decent hub motor and the 36v/316wh battery attached to a basic; but functional 'mountain bike'. If you lack experience of e-bikes and want to 1st get started for minimum outlay; then its fine for UK road use + 20 mile round trips once you get it all adjusted. This bike appears to fall under the category of an Electronically Assisted Pedal Cycle or EAPC with no throttle fitted; and has max motor power output of 250w. Plus it’s restricted to 15mph, so that means it's good news and should meet current requirements to ride on UK roads or anywhere else you can normally cycle. A restricted Pedal Assist CUT-OFF is Fitted as required: so it cannot continue to propel you when you peddle to more than 15mph, so should be compliant under the combined EU LAW BS EN15194 & UK Road Traffic Act which is good to know. So, my advice is don't buy any e-bike with over 250w motor fitted if you intend to ride on UK roads; higher rated motors will give way more speed, but most cycles were never designed to go at very high speeds and so could become unstable and dangerous; the e-bike speed restriction is there for a very good reason; so best get a proper road motor bike if you want to go fast on the road. The pedal assist works well and won't begin until your off and pedalling; so I like the safety feature here, as it can’t ‘speed away from you’ before your ready; or jerk forward when your giving way to traffic. It arrives having been packed and stored in a big box, and comes mostly pre-built, so it needs minimal final assembly. But assembly also includes lots of adjustment afterwords; and so won't be a doddle unless you get some help or are experienced yourself to assemble it and then set it all up correctly. Most I imagine after being crammed in a box will need some degree of wheel spoke alignment; gear alignment, disk brake alignment and or various safety checks done; both mechanical and electrical before you ride it on the road with any confidence. My bike arrived with a few small scratches on the forks and needed 6 spokes adjusting to true the front wheel. The 21 speed gears needed adjusting to all work as they should and the disk brake pads were rubbing; all had to be adjusted before test riding out; so get the battery charged to full while you work. Test ride: This went OK..quite zippy with the little motor boosting you impressively up to its max 15mph quickly and quietly, which is actually enough speed and a safe speed to help you over any longer distance ride involving hills. It handled a few steep hill climbs changing down gears it kept on moving up hill slowly at 5mph and it passed 3 cyclists who had given up; and were off their bikes and pushing them up the hill. Zipping down dry dirt lanes it handled the loose rocks and pot holes fine with it’s front suspension forks and semi off road tyres; but I would not trust it to hold up though a wet muddy wood track with steep jumps and down hill runs. The tyres are Kenya hybrid 26" and more 'on road' than pure off road chunky knobble. One tip is to remember to always lock the battery into place with its key, this will stop it bouncing out of place if you go over a bad bump. This bike can be ridden as a normal bike without turning on any assist, Its assist range is OK lasting 20 miles round trip with heavy use of assistance. Closer to 30 miles can be achieved by simply now and then turning off the power and riding on flat parts as you would on a normal bike. You can also help extend battery life by not pedalling when going down any steep hill so not activating the motor. You can feel the weight at first of it's steel frame riding in UN-powered mode, but its not bad once it's moving due to its decent 21 speed gears and having set it up right helps this bike out a lot. One thing to remember: do check your brakes are never rubbing as this will rob you of motors top speed and drain your battery and your energy. To sum up: I would rate it a very fair at 5/10 meaning it’s about half as good as a 10/10 higher end e-bike, but at a 3rd of the price; it's got to be a bargain. The cx1 appears to be not a bad choice as a 1st e-bike, and it responds to being set up. Reviews may reveal any design problems to take note of.
Alesis Elevate 5 MKII Active 5" DJ Studio Monitor Speakers (Pair) inc Warranty
28 June 2020
Outstanding Sound
The Alesis Elevate 5 MKII speakers give outstanding sound and value with no distortion detectable whatsoever; which at this price is impressive; including not a trace of high frequency hiss. Their audio spectrum is very well balanced for near field studio use. They include a base boost switch if needed, but I doubt you will need for studio nearfield use. They have both phono jack and RCA signal inputs to connect to your desk; plus headphone out and master volume. Highly recommended, and better than expected; solid quality build and outstanding audio performance.
