sigma 300-800 zoom lens
3 of 3 found this helpful this is the ultimate lens for wildlife photography , optically it is on a par with nikkor and canon 500 and 600 f4 lenses . i have the nikkor and can see no difference . the posatives are the zooom flexability ; track a moving object at the 300 mm end and then zoom in . much easier than with a fixed focal lengh lens . ALSO with digital cameras you are not advised to chage lenses too much when in the field due to the dreaded dust on the sensor issues . so whilst a prime lense with a 1.4 , 1.7 and 2 x convertor might cover a similar range the sigma wins on use in a practical sense . your kill rate goes up .
on the negative its heavy , with a pro body and big gitzo your looking at 30 lb on your shoulder . being six foot plus and having a gym memebership is as essential as a lens cleaning cloth !!. but money well spent . forget the Canon mikon snobbery i have many nikkor lenses and the sigma 300 -800 is exceptional
