Olympus Evolt E-500 camera and Zuiko lens
Olympus Evolt E-500 DSLR camera. It is an 8MP. I bought it because this comes with (2) lenses and I need the extra telephoto lens. I already have one such camera. Unless you want to have more lens selections, it matches the popular Canon and Nikon but cheaper in price. It is a fine camera with a lot of bell-and-whistle. It is physically bigger/heavier than the point-and-shoot, meaning two hands operation. Once it is out, it is fast to turn on and quick to shoot, almost no delay. I started with film SLR camera and went to the tiny point-and-shoot and back to DSLR. The point-and-shoot has too many issues, time delay, pictures not as sharp, halo light effects, red-eyes, etc. I am not saying DSLR does not have any issues, but it is much less. Pictures are sharp even in Auto-mode. Unlike the Canon and Nikon where they have a switch for AF/MF (focus) on the lens, Olympus is set through the screen. It has more options of whether you prefer to turn left or right. You have the choice of one or two memory chips. You can read more by going to online and I am making this short. I am please with this Olympus camera.

Fujifilm FinePix A350 5.2 Megapixel
I bought this new Fujifilm A350. It is a 5MP digital camera along with 256MB memory-stick for $140 from a private party. It is a much-improved digital camera over my old fixed focus 2MP Vivitar-3695. Compare with the old, it has sharper auto-focus, more MP, optical Zoom and better color. 45 days after the purchase, I drop it on pavement for a distance of about 18 inches and had no problem with the function of the camera. Another 45 days, Problem (1): One of the two protective lens covers will not cover the lens when OFF, or half-open. Another month later, Problem (2) the 2 AA NiMH batteries last shorter and shorter time and eventually not able to power the camera at all. Camera was mailed back to Fuji. Fuji mailed back a new camera 4 months later, or a very long time, my opinion. I believe it is new because it had a different S/N. It is working fine two weeks later as I am typing this. The battery life is about 120 pictures with 1800 mAh NiMH. It will be flashing low-battery with they are 1.27~1.29Volt and will die shortly (another 10~20 shots). The low-battery should be closer to 1.20V. These same batteries (1.29V) will continue to work in my old camera showing full power for a long time. Reliability comparison: I had the old 2MP fixed focal lens (no mechanical movement, digital zoom is in the electronics) for 2 1/2 years and never any problem. Size comparison: Fuji is about 10~15% larger.
