Covering My Tracks: Recollections of the Twilight of Steam By Robert Adley
21 August 2017
Forget it.
A poor review from me is fairly unusual but I couldn't give this more than 1 star. (Can you leave 0 stars? I must check.) The one star is for the text, which bounces along in quite a readable way. The book is really supposed to be an album, though. This is where it falls down. The content of many of the images would probably be quite interesting but the quality of the photographs is poor, disappointing, awful, pathetic. Picking this up in a bookshop, you wouldn't buy it; even the cover shot is out of focus, blurry, poorly lit, badly chosen. As a railway photographer myself, (strictly amateur and never claimed to be any good) I have looked, open-mouthed at some albums of railway photographs. Not this one, at least, not in a good way. Age of the photos is no excuse, there are thousands of outstanding images from the steam age; unfortunately none of them are in this book. A simple rule of thumb I use; IF THE LOCO NUMBER IS TOO BLURRED TO READ, BIN IT. I'm afraid the editor of the book must bear equal responsibility; even if not interested in railways, he should be able to spot poor quality photographs and suggest replacing them. I thought about putting this straight onto eBay but I couldn't honestly ask for money for this book. I usually end with a positive note but, just this once, no. Borrow it from your local library if you doubt me but, don't buy it. Sorry Mr Adley, but it's true.
2x Mini SCREW 4.8v TORCH LIGHT BULB TWIN PACK 300mA MES Round E10 Fitting
13 June 2018
Useful replacements for very old bulbs.
I bought these to replace 40 year-old bulbs in Tri-ang model railway buildings. I thought I might struggle to get anything the right size but these were easy to find and fit perfectly. I'm sure others would use them for similar purposes if they were advertised as such. Great little product at a very fair price.
240 Sticker of Large Fragile Handle with Care text
01 August 2018
Bargain product, great quality.
I have bought this product more than once, so must be happy with the quality. These stickers are neatly and accurately printed and are pre-cut (again, accurately). I have never had to dump one of them due to any flaw and, at a couple of £s, they are a bargain. I used to print my own but can't do it for this price; I am cheaper buying them, than printing my own.
